The man who walks with Camera -Augustus’s Zen tour to Japan

The man who walks with camera is an Exhibition that unveils Augustus’s Zen tour and expedition to a quintessential country Japan. Done all through recent times, the works are a form of tranquil and tradition-oriented aesthetic effort.

Augustus Lightwriter is a photographer whose clicks have the potential to take his spectators on a surreal and conceptual journey, giving them a roller coaster ride of artistic heights and emotional depths. ‘Snaps are a form of paintings that photographers paint through their eyes’ quotes, Augustus. 

His interest in tracing the secrets of nature, humans, and culture was developed right from childhood. Being a dyslexic kid, studies never amused him while photography gave him the freedom to explore art, psychology, and the exotic dimensions of life. “At a very young age, I commenced clicking pictures and my initial subject was my family” Says Augustus. He completed his BA in Radio & Television from Asian School of Media Studies, Noida, India in 2008 after which in 2009 he collected a Diploma from Academy for Photographic Excellence, New Delhi, India. He then pursued the Honors in Professional program from New England school of Photography, Boston in 2012. His Career took a start when he exhibited a show on nudes and fashion photography at the Louvre Museum, Paris.

Photography is a metaphor of life to him; He contributes all that is vital to manifest his considerations which invite the human gaze to dig deeper as it stands like a spectacle to behold. From structures to stature, sensual to static, panoramas to portraits, his photographs are a mixture of what he consciously experiences and subconsciously encounters every day. When asked what makes a picture alive? He answered, “Observe the notions and sentiments that associate you to the subject and you will be astounded by the outcomes in your work. Just look at everything through the prism of emotions.”

A major segment of Augustus’s works is been confiscated by nudes. His intrigue with naked bodies takes photography and human forms to another magnitude. The vision of perceiving bodies as sculptures along with the added drama of light and dark to the snaps gives them the essence of baroque and renaissance. He remarks “A picture will only entice people if it has a balanced chiaroscuro effect. (Sun)Light plays a major role while clicking Landscapes while shadows are way important in human photography.”

Juxtaposition is not new to Augustus; he often combines natural phenomena, vistas, cityscapes, scenic beauties with attributes and personas of bodies that give a splendid narration to his works. Even with the dissimilitude in the aesthetic and techniques of clicking photos of different genres, the outcomes always make the eyes dive deep into them. “Photographs have vigorous visual and verbal proficiency; Maneuvering right modus operandi and sentiments, makes them most effective in rendering the thoughts.”



The current series of photos and pictures display Japan at its best, magnifying Augustus’s fascination with connectivity, people, and travel. From culture and heritage to contemporary country looks, he has provided a hypnotic array of diverse and variegated cites. “Kyoto is much inclined towards simplicity and heritage in contrast to the capital city Tokyo where one could see speed, movement, and futuristic character” adds Augustus.

As a viewer one is drawn into its maw, not only because of the appealing beauty that could be seen or with the nostalgia that could be felt through the pictures but because of its sheer physicality of emotive essence. 

Augustus in an interview stated that “Japan has been tugging people from eras with its culture and heritage. It is the only country apart from India that has maintained its tradition even after the foreign invasions. Mushrooming since then Japan has always maintained its customary aura alive and that’s what always beguiles me”. The country perfectly exemplifies the advancement while keeping its ethnic roots intact. “People are disciplined, gentle, and benevolent there. They succor to those who are in need, additionally you would not see any trash cans over there; people carry it along with them. Even with this scenario, you would not find a litter on the ground. They are so aware about their country and space” Augustus stated. 

One could discern the panache of life, the pacific character of traditional living, ethnic attires and magnificence of classical architecture from Japan with this series. Augustus's ways to put cardinal but forgotten details of social and culture behaviors in site of us are pulchritudinous. It vitalizes the audience to scavenge for the meaning of life and cherish every breath taken. When asked to quote a line on Photography and sentiments, he retorted “drama and emotions are everywhere, just need to be found and captured”.

FASCINATING DEVOTION- These divine sentiments are depicted very artistically by Bir Kishor Patra via vivid interactive and expressive emotional experiences

Recent creative and thematic work of a famous contemporary artist Bira Kishor Patra will be showcased in a solo art exhibition at Nehru Centre A.C. art gallery Dr. Annie Besant Road, Worli, Mumbai 400 018 from 26th April, to 2nd May, 2022 between 11 am to 7 pm.  It will illustrate his thematic endeavours in acrylic colours on canvas through their relevant nuances and peculiarities in the apt perspectives of visual fine arts.

Bira Kishor Patra hails from Orissa, He had his art education upto B.F.A. in Painting from Berhampur University, Orissa and then M.F.A. in Painting from Faculty of Visual Arts, B.H.U. Varansi, U.P.  He was a proud recipient of several awards even during his student period and thereafter also from many prestigious art promotional institutions of national and international reputation.  He actively participated in many solo and group art shows at numerous art galleries all over India and abroad and rendered his yeoman services for propagation of fine arts to masses through talks on radio/TV and other means for presentations/demonstrations etc.  His works are in proud collection of many art collectors of good reputation in India and abroad.  He has often received overwhelming public response and appreciations for his presentations.

The present series of artwork in acrylic colours on canvas illustrates subtle nuances of FASCINATING  DEVOTION  in his unique style of visual expressions.  His unique expressive thematic endeavours reveal the conceptualization on divine path through music of spirituality and rhythm of music.  It is most effectively revealed through his artistic exploration of the beauty and reality of Universal metaphor in human soul, mind and heart.  These divine sentiments are depicted very artistically by Bir Kishor Patra via vivid interactive and expressive emotional experiences which have duly inspired him to vividly portray the spiritual Universe connected and closely related with Divine Music which, in turn, showers its eternal elixir and nectar on the entire mankind. The artistic expressions in various works symbolize the divine journey from outer world to inner subconscious mind which is based on spiritual experience of Divine Gurus, Saints etc. as has been derived from Universal truth of realisation of self.

 Art exhibition organised by Art Vision group for celebration of World art day.


A group art exhibition will be held at P.L. Deshpande Kala academy art gallery near Ravindra Natya Mandir, Prabhadevi, Mumbai 400025 on 22nd, 23rd and 24th April 2022 between 11 am to 7 pm for which there will be free entry for all visitors.  Arjun Machivale, Mahesh Kadam and Riyaz Kazi of ‘Art Vision’ Group have specially organised this exhibition to celebrate ‘World art day’ (on 15th April) which happens to be the birthday of World famous and renowned versatile artist Leonardo de Vinci. About 22 professional artists/Art Teachers and 31 art students from different schools will participate in this show and showcase their recent artwork in different mediums and techniques under one roof. 20 art students from Sacred Heart School, Kalyan and 11 art students from R.N. Gandhi High School, Vidyavihar will be the participants in this show along with students.


This show will be inaugurated on 22nd April at 2pm by Chief Guest – Shri. Uday Samant(Minister of Higher & Technical Education) in the presence of Shri. Jalindar Sarode, Shri. Anil Bornare, Seema Nandkishor Lad, Sonakshi Vikas More



Coincidentally, this happens to be a decade celebration of the art movement started as Art Vision  in 2011 by the pioneering visionaries viz. Arjun Machivale, Mahesh Kadam and Riyaz Kazi and hence will be the 10th group art show in that series where artists from farflung areas like Mumbai, Pune, Sangli, Satara, Ratnagiri, Nashik, Kolhapur etc., will showcase their work.

All participants will be awarded Raja Ravi Verma awards 2022 for their noteworthy art presentation. Also, people and institutions engaged in doing social and educational promotional work and other related work will be awarded Raja Ravi Verma 2022 awards towards appreciation and recognition of their works.



The various works presented in this group art exhibition will be in   Acrylic, watercolour, mix media etc on canvas and paper. These will include landscapes, cityscapes, realistic work, showing beauty of nature and its marvels in different seasons figurative work showing various emotions in the sensitive minds of human being monumental works, spiritual works and others.

EXPLORING THE POPULAR TERRACOTTAS AND BRONZES OF SUBRATA BISWAS

The Sculptor Subrata Biswas simultaneously addresses two perennial problems that our modern sculpture has very often to confront. First is the question of identity, the second is that of socio-temporal commitment. Subrata through his skill and meditative tackling of forms brings out assimilation within the two. His expressions are apparently simple, sonorous, witty, humorous, yet very much critical in postulating the intrinsic turmoil of life. Through apparent ludicrousness he unfolds the tragic turmoil of reality. Primitivity and folk traditions have played a significant role in his approach towards own form. He thus connects himself with the sojourn of our modernity and absorbing the essence of its ideals transforms the same to suit his own sensibility and personality and thus creates significant forms positing a solution to the intricate problem of alienation and domination of Western modernistic modes.

Subrata Biswas (born 1972) is a sculptor, who came to his own creativity during the decade of 1990s. He completed his masters from Rabindra Bharati University in 1997 and is now attached to the same university as a faculty. For emancipation of his form he judiciously looked deeper into the popular artistic wisdom of our society. We know this search was an important trend of our modernity too. Abanindranath’s research on the cult of popular worship of women folk of village Bengal, which is commonly known as Broto and his significant publication of the booklet titled Banglar Broto opened a wide range of village cults. Gurusaday Datta’s explorations were also very important. The artistic activities of Sunayani Devi in the inner household of Jorasanko Tagore family and exploration of the popular by Jamini Roy and Nandalal Bose opened up the great expanse of folk and popular art. Yet the post-modern and rather the post-truth trends of the twenty-first century is entirely different from the previous explorations of the popular.

Subrata has judiciously surveyed both the fields of the traditional popular and the devastating reality posed by the politics and the present epidemic situation caused by covid 19. He succinctly experimented with tradition and modernity and built up sculptural forms, which are apparently naïve and deeper in unmasking the various trends of existential truths dormant both within the collective unconscious and explosively conscious extrinsic features of our society. With benign sobriety he strikes the various heinous trends of our society with serious rebellious attitude. This is the essence of his present sets of sculptures.

He has worked both in terracotta and bronze. Both these mediums have their own trends of expressionist properties. But his conceptual rendering has energized one with the property of the other. Particularly his bronzes display a kind of sonority, which is very much inherent characteristic of terracotta.
