I am naturally drawn to the forms that Mukhtar composes on the canvas

Mukhtar Kazi paints like he speaks; in a measured and calm tone, pausing and thinking before each sentence and with a depth and baritone that makes you hang on to every word.

I have been acquainted with Mukhtar’s work for the last decade or so; since the time I bought my first work by him not having known him or his oeuvre personally. I was simply attracted to the work itself. There was a stillness yet a gentle vibration in the work that captivates me even now after a decade and I continue to find layers, dualities and depths that I was unaware of when I acquired it.

Being an architect, I am naturally drawn to the forms that Mukhtar composes on the canvas. I can almost imagine him in the process of painting, gently applying the brush to the canvas with the lightest of touches and then building up the layers as he goes on, extracting a balance between the different personalities and tones of the same color at times and teasing out the various nuances of chiaroscuro to achieve depth and volume on a simple two-dimensional canvas.

There is no rushing of the brush, not a casual stroke here or there, nor a sign of the artist’s ego. Instead, there is a driven commitment, both personal and artistic to draw out the slivers of light that seem to be hiding behind these veils of colors and which want to break free.

His canvases draw you in and hold you in a grip once you drop your guard and decide to enter them. Your eyes move furtively across the canvas following the angled forms and sharp edges and then turn when they encounter color which then pulls you further into the deep abyss of its multifarious shades. There is no escape.

I believe Art should not only be about the “pretty picture”.

Art is a medium of communication that needs to have the capacity and the depth of character to make its viewer want to converse with it and go back renewed.    

And in Mukhtar Kazi, that medium has found a sensitive and devoted messenger.

Various artworks made by a contemporary artist. Dr. Ishita in oil colours on canvas reveal her intense urge to adorn them with apt icons of beauty of nature in different seasons. Her forte lies in an attempt to depict in each work with the wonders of Nature and their impact on the human mind via relevant visual metaphors. She has been impressed by the countless moods of Nature, from vast skies, to deep valleys, blossoming meadows, snow peaks, frothing seas, and all the dynamics of their constantly shifting light and shade.

She came in contact with Artist Sayaram Waghmare, senior contemporary artist of international repute who, as her guru, played a pivotal role in her journey in art. ABOUT THE ARTIST

Shahed Pasha got two gold medal in Master of drawing and painting & completed  PHD Degree in visual art from Gulbarga University, Karnataka. Pasha’s work of art has been showcased at various national and international exhibitions in India and abroad. He has been featured in more than 8 solo shows, 51 group shows and participated in more than 52 national as well as international art camps across the country.

He recipient of more than 58 Award such the Karnataka Lalit Kala Academy Award, All India Art exhibition international Art Competition and 2 fellowship State Lalit Kala Academy & Moulana Azad National fellowship. Presently working as an guest professor at Dept. of Visual Art Gulbarga University Gulbarga, Karnataka India.

 

ABOUT THE PAINTINGS,

By creatively imagining tradition and mythological themes my paintings demonstrates how life extends beyond its own subjective limits. Further my painting represent the continuous challenge between the self and world, the primordial and the modern, thereby bringing out contemporary values and realization. Historical, social and mythological aspects are centralized in my compositions. Despite being infused by original and radical ideas, the characters in my painting continue to broadcast traditional values and true messages, attempting to strengthen the spiritual and moral character of the viewer.

Humans develop certain parts of their brain, often known as the Unique Identification System, to establish a conversation.

Basically, a form is the aesthetically aligned static version of the occurrence and recurrence of our visual sensibilities. The metaphors of emotions in these forms are actual derivations of Ashok Namdeo Hinge's visual interpretations. Ashok has experienced these emotions, and he strikes an impactful conversation through art that is symbolic in nature.

Self-assessed visuals are the symbols of the realisation of space, boundaries of experiences, and the visuals our sight beholds. Humans develop certain parts of their brain, often known as the Unique Identification System, to establish a conversation. This developed system works to stimulate the micro visual sensibility in humans, which eventually results in developing the knowledge and understanding of art. In these stages of development, whenever the sensibilities find stability, they give birth to symbolism. The symbols or metaphors that create deep sensibilities are more impactful in nature.  The process of creating metaphors doesn't stress much on technical knowledge. It rather relies more on the results of that technique. Symbols invite audience's sensibility of shape and its experience. And in it lies their happiness and success.

A human transforms this sensibility into devotion. Ashok establishes this very fact through his visual interpretations. The happiness derived from seeing a visual is the symbol of one's visual psyche and symbolic psyche. Visual symbols and forms represent the emotions of visual thought or visual values. The one who realises this secret becomes a true visionary. And Ashok presents this secret through this exhibition.To see and experience such visuals is similar to one watching Satya+Nar+ion. This whole idea of seeing the reflection of self symbolically is what could be interpreted as Visual+Satya+Nar+Ion (To watch the reflection of one's soul as an ansh of the Lord)

Shreela Gokarn (b.1966). 

After nearly twenty satisfying years in the industry as an Interior Designer, I decided to focus my attention on my desire to paint - My passion, My love. I trained in my formative years under my mother, Premi Ullal, who is a product of J. J. School of Art, Mumbai, India. Portraiture is her forte. I learnt all the nuances of making portraits in oil, water colour and charcoal. A self taught artist in the Mixed Media Abstract Art medium as well as Digital art, experimentation and innovation have been vital components to creating art that speaks of my experiences. I feel my digital art can't be slotted into a category. I spent my initial years in an industry, where change is a constant feature in your work. If you want to be noticed, you have to be innovative and constantly thinking out of the box. This has influenced my work greatly.

I have also been drawn to mixed media which I enjoy immensely. "Letting go" is a great way to express oneself, by letting the brushes to speak for you, to explore and express feelings through colours. A culmination of my reality, I like to think of my art as the marriage of my understanding of the world and my imagination – the real and the unreal. The combination of mood and depth fused with concepts of space, theology and continuity provoke my imagination to chronicle, through layers of texture and color, my reality. This body of 10 works is part of a collection of Digital Abstract works called Prakruti

Shreela Gokarn pursues her heart felt desire to raise awareness about the repercussions of our actions on our environment. Through her paintings, she showcases the detrimental consequences of rapidly growing urbanization, water crisis, disappearing jungles and similar aspects leading to the deterioration of our planet Earth, while she highlights the goodness and healing touch of nature. She wishes to rouse people through her art.

She quotes:"stretching his hand to reach the stars, too often man forgets the flowers at his feet"- Jeremy Bentham. The artist has divided her work into three parts: The first collection of 7 artworks represents the thought that, “We are part of the earth and it is part of us”. The second section, a selection of 10 artworks dwells on the present status of our environment, "When Life's Green gives away". However, the artist is an optimist at heart and would like to believe that we can restore the environment quite successfully. This is depicted by 7 artworks in the last section, "Mother Nature is generous, as she never gives up, if only we give her a chance".... Since starting my expedition with digital art in 2015, I have been a part of both group and solo exhibitions. I recently have been recognized for my work and was represented by Art nou Millenni at the Art Baho Festival 2019 Barcelona, Spain, under the category "unique art works". I hope my art does start a visual conversation between us!

The Shape of Home Tanmoy Samanta solo show at TARQ.

 About the Exhibition: 

The team at TARQ is delighted to announce Tanmoy Samanta’s third solo show at the gallery, The Shape of Home. The collages and watercolour paintings in this show explore Samanta’s practice of elevating the miniature to the epic through his artistic language of solitude and reflection. The artworks in this exhibition showcase Samanta’s exploration of the material and imaginative aspects of our domestic spaces at a time when we are confined within those very spaces. Created during the ongoing pandemic, these artworks are evocative of the memories and stories that these domestic spaces hold. Also present in this show is the artist’s leitmotif of birds. Samanta often uses birds as a vehicle to examine certain dualities like the macabre and the fantastic, moment and eternity.

and presence and absence. Using his preferred medium of rice paper on paper board, Samanta has succeeded in creating works that are quietly poetic. As described by Samanta, “These works are about memory and the idea of home; about longing, belonging and unbelonging. They are about the presence and absence; evocation and poignancy. The stencil like images on the cut-out surfaces are an act of assemblage of memory of different times - some subdued and others stark. They are in the shapes of objects at home—some carefully preserved, forgotten or discarded, heirlooms, layered with tactile experiences and mind-travel to the constellations.” This exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue featuring an essay by Ranjit Hoskote. 

Recent work by Tanmoy Samanta

About the Artist Tanmoy Samanta began his artistic journey atthe Kala Bhavan in Santiniketan,West Bengal, before training at the Kanoria Arts Centre, Ahmedabad. His career has seen a number of solo exhibitions including three with the New Delhi based Gallery Espace and one at Anant Art Gallery, Kolkata. Samanta’s show at TARQ in 2014, titled The Shadow Trapper’s Almanac, curated by Ranjit Hoskote, marked his first solo exhibition in Mumbai. The Shape of Home will be his third solo show at TARQ. Over the years, Samanta has been a part of group shows across India and abroad. Recently, he was part of a group exhibition, Known Unknown, organized by the Raza Foundation, in collaboration with Vadhera Art Gallery, 2020. Besides participating in numerous art fairs such as Art Dubai, Dhaka Art Summit, Art Chennai and India Art Fair, his works have been a part of several prestigious public art projects such as the installation at the Hyatt Regency, Delhi (2016), a site specific collaborative project at IIM Ahmedabad (2016), T-2 Liminus, Mumbai International Airport (2013) and BeeHive at the Hyatt Regency, Chennai (2011) – both curated by Rajiv Sethi. In 2002, Samanta's artistic practice was recognized and celebrated with an award from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, New York, USA. He lives and works between New Delhi and Santiniketan

National awards can be made online Nov. Finally, the 67th National Film Awards Ceremony was held on 25th October at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. It was announced that the award for Best Debut Director National Award for the short film Khisa was given to Raj Pritam More at the hands of Vice President Shri Venkaiah Naidu. Raj More's short film Khisa has already won awards at major festivals and competitions around the world, winning over 27 international awards in various countries from New York to Berlin. His first short film "Khisa" presented by PP Cine Productions has won many awards and accolades in India as well as around the world. Including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award of India.

Raj Pritam More has previously received the 54th National Academy of Fine Arts Award from the Government of India for his painting "Oh My God". And Khisa is the first film he has directed.

When a work of art grows big, so does its birthplace. Born in Akola, Raj More is also a famous painter of the country. He is a student of the famous JJ School of Arts. He has been working in the visual arts for over 20 years and now, with his debut in the film industry, his pocket book earned him this honor. His wife Sangeeta Raj More was also present at the Vigyan Bhavan. He also posted on social media that the award is with him and the entire team and his village Akola and the whole of Vidarbha. National awards were also given to veteran artists like Manoj Bajpayee, Kangana Ranaut, Vijay Sethupati and Dhanush. Also, superstar Rajinikanth was given the Dadasaheb Phalke of the Year 2021 award.

Phantasmagoria grapples with the construction and deconstruction of thought/ memories conditioned by contemporary culture. It brings together artists who problematize the concept of realism as well as reality, especially in an age which is a frenzy of simulations. Taking from pop culture while blurring the boundaries between ‘high’ and ‘low’ art, these artists form bricolages of mental landscapes. ‘Parody’ and ‘Pastiche’ are blended to form a post post-modern critique of the capitalist aesthetic and consumerism. The painterly surface becomes the door to the phantasmatic terrains mapped through the process of giving dimensions to intangible ideas.

Dileep Sharma’s oeuvre spells out contemporary in a hard hitting manner, with a splash of velocity propelled by neo pop colours. His juxtapositioning of motifs is a direct reflection of what is projected by the media, popular culture and fashion, thus rendering his imagery with a stark sense of humour, seduction & fantasy. The conundrums brought forth in this era are best swallowed down with a pinch of salt and a fistful of sugar, which is exactly the recipe of his works.
