58 feature films, documentaries and short films in 15 languages from across
India that have been selected for NYIFF 2021.
Marathi
short film Khisa (Pocket),Its debut directed by Raj Pritam
More, has been selected to be screened at the 21st New York Indian Film
Festival (NYIFF). Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the film festival will be
held virtually from June 4 to 15 2021.
Raj
Pritam More has won the 67th National Film Award for Best
Directorial Debut for his short film Khisa. which is considered among the most
prestigious awards ofIndia.
More toldthat he was delighted about winning the
coveted award. "Every filmmaker wishes to win a National Award," he said. This is his second National award, he already win 54th
National Academy Award by Lalit Kala Academy New Delhi and Best Asia Art Award
from Asia. Korea..He from JJ School of Art Mumbai.
The filmmaker, a respected contemporary visual artist, said the award has
given him a lot of confidence. "This was my first film and I had invested
the past two years in it. It had won many awards at various international
festivals but after it got selected for the International Film Festival of India this year, I realized that there was a chance that we could win the
National Award. I can't contain my happiness. I would also like to thank my
team, especially my writer, DOP and the editor for having full faith in my
vision.
“The whole
story revolves around the shirt. The child is proud of his pocket. It sets him
apart from others his age, whose pockets are not only smaller but also ordinary
and similar to each other. The little boy does not understand the politics of
symbolism that adults engage in, and his pocket soon becomes a point of
contention amongst elders in the village. This story of a loss of innocence and
coming-of-age of a young boy, is ironically, symbolic of the times we live in,”
said More.
The filmmaker
added that he was planning to work on a different film and had called Kailash
Waghmare for casting. “He told me that in his village there had been an
incident of a child who had attempted to stand out from the crowd by wearing a
shirt with an unusually large pocket. I realised that this was the story I
wanted to tell and Waghmare wrote it,” said the director. Waghmare plays the
father of the child in the film.

against pseudo feminism, causing much defilement to women rather than hale. “Combating
and competing has become so crucial to genders that they have lost their values
and prominence. The woman is becoming more like a man, abandoning her vibrance.
Feminine with a mustache.”-said Tathi premchand.

The aura
created by Premchand’s vision stimulates every sense of living. His works have the
capacity to raise questions as well as to make any person stunned by giving
untold answers. The works laid on sheets are much of what comes from his
subconscious rather than pre-planned methods. When asked how he configure and
manage to create such depth in the paintings? He answered, “I observe, sketch
twice a day, sense my expressions and then collaborate.”
Tathi Premchand’s
works hold variance according to the dissemination of his dialect. He invests
all that is necessary to display the deliberation. From forms to figures,
erotic to static, moods to moments the paintings are a combination of what we
come across every day. Inspired by his town city and people living there, the
drawings are more often black and white,” I’ve always been curious how we see
colors through our lens but dreams and visuals going in the mind are inevitably
black and white, on the contrary I want people to fill up colors according to
their moods and diurnalexperiences” he says. The paintings and sketches hold discernment of human life, struggles,
desires and dualities of wit that we behold inside.

The series of 70 works being processed since 2013 drives our
attention towards the way how humans have progressed and are ravelled in their
own aspirations, sovereignty and aesthetics. How the animals dwelling inside
each of us is silently waiting for their prey. “we all are animals inside,
always craving for more. Whether it is food, sexual eagerness, or wants to
excel over others, we always expect for more.” The artist affirms.
In most of Tathi Premchand’s presentation women plays a vital
role. He anticipates women as a preserver, a collector while a male as a
ravager. Though both contributes equal to society, women many a times have to
undergo a bulldoze pressure of mimicking the image of male as well. He
repudiates the thought of women being frail but consider her powerful, a soul who
is the creator, creator of human, house, love, affection and rejoice.
From eternity man has forged a sphere where women are wielded
according to his comfort, and in retribution women is shaping herself like
male, vying him to be self-sustained which eventually compressing her by
carrying all the responsibilities on her supple shoulders. “I feel women is a
combination of energies, she is synergy, but in order to beat man, that too due
to his own vile practices, she is being misused.” The artist said.
Not being a hoax feminist, Tathi Premchand always believes in
equality of genders, but as in reality and norms set by masculine dominant
society women have to encounter challenges and pronouncements. If she becomes
competitive enough to face them, she’s being condemned. Her efforts and endeavours
are never appreciated, but always judged and doubted. “I admire and acknowledge
how courageously women compete the foul boundations set by men.” Added
Premchand.
The physiological and psychological characteristics of man
and woman created by extramundane powers holds their own purposes and motives.
Both contribute well towards living, competing each other or penetrating into other’s
sphere of traits may create indecent and foul results. Hence, respecting
other’s freedom and persona will bring a vital change in further future.
Man and woman together fabricate the world, which invokes the
sense of living. Women being much sensual, men are considered more attractive
and alluring according to Tathi Premchand, adding on examples like Lion,
Peacock, Cock etc. Accepting male’s delightful appeal women always get
fascinated, which provokes her to embellish and adorn the ways she looks. Male
of the contrary need no such extra enhancements for his appeal.
Lust is what every human craves for and in many of the
paintings that libido can be seen in form of animals and their hunger. Animals
do not care about moral sense when it comes to fulfil their starvation. Likewise,
humans are a cluster of their unrevealed desires. They are not much concerned
about matters and morals when it comes to attain their wishes.
Andolan, a gesture started to untangle the dubiety of
stubborn society with minimal drawings that are gratifying to view and provoke
us to think down from the top surface. The artist profess that his paintings
and works are not just to be glance and to be showcased but to disclose his real
nous, that may compel the living to revitalize.
As we get conscious about the paintings and understand them,
we figure out that every painting has its own value and sense of representation.
The artist is making us aware of dark side by depicting them in different temperaments.
Using ink as a medium, Premchand manifests that our lives are too like ink,
dark, fluid but when used correctly every stroke laid can covey a significant
knowledge.
“my paintings are better than sex.” A quotation remarked by
Tathi premchand, signifies that his paintings are pleasure to experience,
provides great impact on thinking and you will always be keen to encounter
more. Nature, forms, colours and characters modifies him with every stroke
laid. Observing the psyche and understanding how every soul’s desires are
different yet have same aspirations.

which is curated by Heena Shaikh and Nippon contemporary is the creator of new era for young artists
in Mumbai and Online Viewing platform now active as leading in India. For me as
Heena Shaikh Artist is one of the biggest challenges that we all faced in
recent times is the change of work ethic and methods in the situation these
days. As everyone did go through this challenge over this past year, everyone
tried to make the best of it. The show ‘’Pause’’ represents that fruitful
result of the changes we witnessed through artist’s point of view.
Conversations and all the process changed to online, in a blink of an eye. In
these times, our goal was to gather artists from different places from India
and bring all their different art styles together for all the people to see.
The enthusiastic contribution by all the artists made it possible to put a
great show online for everyone to see. With a number of different of art styles
and works, the plan of having one online show split into two ‘’Pause 1 and
Pause 2.’’ This exhibition offers works by 19 young artists who suggest and
focuses on the subjects who we are facing or deals with it in the everyday
lives that we hardly observe. Adapting to this new era of gallery and bringing
people together has been a wonderful and intriguing project to work on in this
lockdown period.

Currently
Prashant Patil working at Santiniketan (West Bengal). Santiniketan is
surrounded by small Santhali villages, where the Santhals continue to live a
traditional lifestyle. They make their own mud houses with unique interior
structure and arrangements expressing their aesthetic sense. Those things
enchanted me.
Drawing, Painting, Photography and
Installation. I was interested in collecting objects, mostly from streets and
footpaths in rural villages. The present condition of an object also provides
means to peep into its history, its riches and desertion. I was drawn to the
objects which were engulfed by cobwebs. These cobwebs not only depicted the
present condition of the object but also the past it experienced and this
inspired me to draw in a 3d space.
The
idea of making drawings in the form of cobwebs, changed my art practice
entirely. It allowed me to elevate my artworks from paper surface drawing to a
more occupying physical space. I started working with the glue gun to create 3D
drawing and used a spotlight to project its shadow on the walls of a dark room.
By claiming three-dimensional space I was able to let the shadows have a
dialogue with the empty wall. This subtle interaction of fragile web on a solid
and hard surface, expresses temporariness of existence. Lingering shadows on
the wall present themselves as a strong medium in itself, their presence gives
viewers a chance to wonder upon true existence (reality) and mere illusion of
it.

Sajane paint to experience the world within me and it is my meditation where I
am searching for myself through lines. It is sublime feeling that affects me
very deeply. We always use our logical mind every time. I want to say accept
LINES AS A LINES; COLORS AS A COLORS AND DOTS AS A DOTS. Do not ask question because
there is no explanation. Over the years painting helped me to quiet my mind,
find my peace and connected again with inner itself. I am compelled by my
emotions.

Rust
painting begins in 1994. I was a great follower of the artist late Prabhakar
Barwe. After reading his book ‘Kora Canvas’ (Blank Canvas), I started writing
him letters about my thoughts, questions about art. Also, I asked him about his
journey in the field of art. In one of his replies, I learned that in his early
carrier he has experimented with various materials. I also wanted to explore
different mediums. While looking at the stains of rust on the workshop floor, I
started to work on rust as a medium. Prabhakar Barwe encouraged me with his
blessings.
Somehow
I stopped working in this media but again started to work in rust from 2014. I
have exhibited them in my past shows. I feel that the stains of the rust are
the frozen moments of time and my imagery is based on the objects such as
horoscope, manuscripts which holds time or a period within them. I am working
as a museum curator, so I handle such antiquities every day which has started
reflecting in my work.
